Issue: claim of Hungarian aluminum processing company and its Argentine parent company against a Russian aluminum smelter for breach of certain contracts for the long-term supply of aluminum ingots.

In Government:

  • Service as mediator (or settlement) as Senior Staff Attorney for the Seventh Circuit and as U. S. Magistrate

In Private Practice:

  • Service as special master for federal court to conduct settlement conferences, to supervise
    discovery, and to conduct objector proceedings in multi-million dollar class action settlement
  • Service as special master for federal court to conduct the first computer-aided mediation of
    a million dollar products liability case
  • Service as an arbitrator in commercial and construction cases administered by the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers
  • Service as a mediator in commercial and construction cases administered by the American Arbitration Association and the American Intermediation Service
  • Service as an arbitrator and as mediator in many varieties of contract, commercial, employment and business disputes
  • Consultant to the Office of the Illinois Attorney General on the design of a Mediation Program for the Consumer Protection Division
  • Consultant to the Appraisal Institute during the merger of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers
  • Consultant to the Appraisal Institute in the design of the appeals systems for its admissions process and its good moral character investigation process
  • Service and mediator and conciliator for the Office of Conciliation, Archdiocese of Chicago
  • Appointed by the Librarian of Congress to serve as an arbitrator on a Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel to set the compulsory license royalty rate for the retransmission of broadcast network and superstation signals by satellite carriers; Claims were in excess of $500 million in value.
  • Service as a mediator of $150 million contract dispute between a class of plaintiffs consisting of most of the Indian tribes in the U.S. and several agencies of the federal government.
  • Service as a negotiation consultant to assist in the settlement of a 14 million dollar race-discrimination class action lawsuit.
  • Service as an investigator for Federal Courts of Appeals to inquire into and report on alleged judicial misconduct of federal judges.
  • Service as a State Court-appointed independent expert to determine the fairness of a proposed multi-million dollar class action settlement involving the cellular telephone industry.
  • Service as a State Court-appointed independent expert to determine the reasonableness of
    an attorney fee request in a multi-million dollar class action settlement involving the cellular telephone industry.
  • Service as a special master in federal court to determine the reasonableness of an attorney fee request in a multi-million dollar securities class action
