CIDRA, Loyola University Chicago School of Law and CIArb, North American
Branch
Co-Sponsor Mini-Moot Competition
Chicago, Illinois – The Chicago International Dispute Resolution Association
(CIDRA), co-sponsored along with Loyola University and the Chartered Institute
of Arbitrators, North American Branch (CIArb), a Mini-Moot for regional
law schools in advance of the 2008 Willem C. Vis Moot Competitions in
Vienna and Hong Kong. The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration
Moot Competition is an international competition designed to foster the
study of international commercial law and arbitration for resolution of
international business disputes.
At the Mini-Moot on February 9, 2008, about 20 teams argued before panels
of three arbitrators. The following law schools competed: Loyola University
Chicago School of Law, DePaul University College of Law, Chicago-Kent
College of Law, John Marshall Law School, University of Wisconsin Law
School, Hamline University School of Law and Michigan State University
College of Law. Congratulations to all the competitors.
CIDRA members were among the 30 arbitrators from several countries and
included: Peter Baugher, President of CIDRA and partner
at Schopf & Weiss LLP, and Lawrence Schaner, partner
at Jenner & Block and Chair of the Chicago Chapter of the Chartered
Institute of Arbitrators and Professor Philip Hablutzel
of Chicago-Kent College of Law and other CIArb members. A surprise arbitrator
was immediate Past President of CIArb, Hew Dundas.

The Mini-Moot was organised by Professor Margaret Moses
and the student team led by Jean LaViolette from Loyola
University and CIDRA Law Associate M. Scott Leonard.
Loyola provided the facilities and hosted lunch for the arbitrators and
the students.
