NORTH AMERICAN BRANCH
THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF ARBITRATORS
Fast Track Programme to Fellowship
Assessment Workshop
Northwestern University School of Law Chicago, Illinois, USA
May 30, 31 - June 1, 2002
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators has recognized that the
customary route to Fellowship consisting of examinations and assessments may
not be appropriate for experienced Lawyers who have been in practice for at
least ten (10) years. Therefore this Programme has been designed to more quickly
provide the potential first two steps to the advanced level of Fellowship rank
in The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and recognition of their knowledge
and experience.
| The Programme/Workshop(s) consist of: |
| Step One |
Assessment Workshop
|
Consists of two days of oral assessment based on a case study
of a dispute and problems related thereto. |
| Step Two |
Award Writing
Examination (Part III,

#
|
A four hour written open book examination during which candidates
are required to write a reasoned, enforceable arbitration award based on
a case study which is distributed in two parts: the first part to be received
at least 7-10 days before the examination, and the second part at the examination. |
| Remaining steps to Fellowship |
| Step Three |

Fellowship Programme

draft an Arbitration Award.* Attachment to a practicing arbitrator.* |
| Step Four |

|
This is the last requirement and is held with one or more
experienced, practicing arbitrators. |
# If you are an arbitrator with
practical experience at writing reasoned awards, you may submit 2-3 such awards
which you have written for consideration. If they are considered to be a standard
equivalent to a pass in the examination, you will be exempt from taking the
examination. Otherwise, you will be required to pass the examination.
* Exemption may be granted, depending on an applicant's
experience. To seek advice, you should submit your C.V. to the Education Director,
North American Branch The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators whose contact details
will be available at the Workshop.
