International Entry Level Course

Fast Track Programme to Fellowship

Open to both Members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators ("CIArb") and Non-Members, the International Entry Level Course provides training to individuals preparing to serve as neutrals in international commercial disputes and is a comparative review of the various laws and institutional rules for conducting an international commercial arbitration. The Course utilizes representatives of the CIArb who are experienced arbitrators and qualified tutors.

The Course consists of discussions and role playing in case-related scenarios. The format of training affords participants the opportunity to confront, analyze and resolve procedural and substantive issues which arise in an international arbitration. There is some preparation required in advance of the course. A brief examination follows the Course. The exam is recognized as part of the CIArb Membership qualification programme. Upon successful completion of the Course, participants may apply for Associate Membership in the CIArb.

The Fast Track Program to Fellowship is an advanced course, open to arbitrators with at least ten (10) years experience in conducting arbitration hearings and to lawyers with at least ten (10) years experience in litigation. The Program provides an assessment of the participant's knowledge of international commercial arbitration. Providing a stimulating challenge, the Fast Track Program to Fellowship a high degree of participation from those in attendance. At the time of registration candidates are supplied a reading list from leading texts on arbitration law and a bibliography of references and various institutional rules. A week before the Course begins, candidates are sent the first part of an Award Writing examination and supplied a set of practice Award Writing papers in preparation for the course.

The Fast Track Program to Fellowship begins with a two-day practical assessment, including the use of scenarios in which workshop members serve in the roles of advocate, arbitrator or courts based on the situations posed by material distributed during the workshop. The Course concludes with an Award Writing examination. (Note: The language of the Course and the Award Writing is in English.)

Success in the assessment and the passing of the Award Writing examination at the conclusion of the Fast Track Program to Fellowship will enable the candidates to apply for Fellowship in the CIArb.
